Social bathing has long been part of human culture, and its modern revival reflects our deep need for connection. Sauna, in particular, creates a shared space for relaxation, conversation, and community. The heat not only eases the body but also boosts endorphins and oxytocin—hormones linked to well-being and bonding. In a digital world, social bathing offers a timeless way to reconnect and restore.

Vihta Workshop
Making a vihta is a meditative way to connect with nature. In this workshop, led by trained sauna therapists, you’ll craft a small, heart-soothing vihta using plants and branches from the Finnish forest.
The vihta brings a touch of nature into the sauna, gently gathers worries from the heart, and releases them with the löyly. A variety of non-toxic plants will be available—but please note that some may cause allergic reactions.
Book your ticket in advance (free) – Free to participants (25 seats)
In the hands of traditional sauna healers, the sauna turns into forest’s porch. Led by trained traditional sauna healers, this session introduces you the world of vihta treatments, how to use it by yourself? How to use the vihta to enhance the sauna’s healing effects.
And because we are traditional sauna healers, every now and then, singing comes from the sauna. And laughter.
Please note: some plants may cause allergic reactions.
We warmly recommend to participate in vihta work shop, and create your own vihta.
Free to participants (30 seats)
What is Aufguss?
Aufguss is a 15-minute sauna ritual that stimulates all the senses. A trained Sauna Master circulates heat and scents using water, essential oils, and towel movements—often accompanied by music.

The World’s Largest Smokesauna
Our smoke sauna takes 150 persons in. This is a unique building made of old logs and recycled materials. There are separate changing rooms and showers for men and women; the sauna room is common with swimsuits on. There’s a cosy fireplace on the porch. Swimming in the forest pond with cold springs is refreshing throughout the year.
The Tupaswilla smoke sauna was chosen as the best smoke sauna in Finland 2016 by the International Smoke Sauna Club. The quality of the humid heat is special due to the huge oven. It weighs about 5000 kilos and takes 5-6 hours to heat using birch and alder wood.
Natural Peat Treatment in the Warm Sauna
Natural peat treatment is a health promoting experience. The ancient peat, dug from a deep swamp, is 100% natural ingredient. It contains various nutrients and minerals. Peat used as a mask on your skin helps to clean and soften the skin as well as to clean metabolic waste from the body. Remember hydration: drink 1-2 litres of water before peat sauna treatment.
Craft Demonstrations
Have a guided walking tour through the Tupaswilla courtyard and see the artisans at their work.
- The blacksmith’s workshop: See traditional forging of tools, knives, and amulets.
- Wool dye workshop: Learn about the dye use of natural ingredients like mushrooms, tree leaves, and lichen from the surroundings.
- Shingle roof making: See how Finns used to build waterproof roofs and shields from thin spruce shingles.
There are souvenir products for sale, including smith work, dyed yarn, and cosmetic peat care products by Lehtopeat-shop.

Please note: some plants may cause allergic reactions.
We warmly recommend to participate in vihta work shop, and create your own vihta.

Social bathing has been a cornerstone of human culture for centuries, and its resurgence in modern wellness is no coincidence. Research shows that social interaction is deeply tied to mental and emotional well-being, reducing stress and fostering a sense of community.
Sauna bathing, in particular, brings people together in a shared space of relaxation and connection, creating a unique environment for bonding and conversation —its heat promotes the release of endorphins and oxytocin, the “feel-good” hormones that strengthen social ties
Studies highlight how the combination of heat therapy and social engagement enhances mood, reduces loneliness, and promotes overall health. As we seek meaningful connections in an increasingly digital world, social bathing offers a timeless, restorative experience that is here to stay.

"The roots of sauna culture run so deep in Finnish culture and history that there is endless inspiration for new projects. Designing a cohesive, functional, and beautiful sauna is already challenging in itself, but when you incorporate all the historical layers, rituals, and traditions, it forms a complex entity that at its best can create an unforgettable experience for users.”
