From Helsinki – Jyväskylä

By train

Using the train is a convenient way to travel. The Finnish railway operator, VR, provides regular and efficient train services connecting these two cities. The journey typically takes around 3 to 4 hours and is around 333km, depending on the type of train. Enjoy the panoramic views of forests, lakes, and charming Finnish villages along the way, while reading a book or discussing with colleagues.

To get to Jyväskylä by train from the Helsinki airport, one or two transfers are needed. The commuter train needs to be taken which goes to Tikkurila where you switch to the connection train directly to Jyväskylä. The Helsinki airport train station is easy to find and navigate. All the trains there are only operating from the airport to the Helsinki center.

One of the advantages of traveling by bus, it frees you from carrying luggage when changing to the connecting train. The buses have comfortable seating and onboard facilities. The distance is about 288km and takes around 3 to 4 hours.

There is Onnibus Mega and Onnibus Flex. In Onnibus Mega there are onboard facilities as well as charging ports, and some of the seats have more leg space, whereas in the Onnibus flex has no charging ports.

How to get from Jyväskylä airport in Tikkakoski to Jyväskylä city centre:

Once landing in Jyväskylä, the easiest way is to book a taxi or rent a car, since there is no public transport from the airport to the Jyväsklyä center. The drive will take around 20 minutes.

From Tampere – Jyväskylä

Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is 17 kilometers from Tampere city centre.

By bus:

Bus 103 leaves in front of Terminal 1 approximately 45 minutes after the arrival of the flight. If the flight is delayed, the bus will wait for passengers within the limits allowed by the bus schedule (maximum 30 minutes). The bus continues through Terminal 2 to Tampere where the route passes through Tampere bus and train stations to Hämeenpuisto.

The bus line 103 runs daily to Tampere-Pirkkala Airport. In the center of Tampere, the route passes through the train station and bus station. Take the bus line 103 to the bus station and take from there the long-distance bus to Jyväskylä.

Bus line 103 operates between the airport and Tampere city center. Bus line 39 operates between Pirkkala and the airport. More information is available on the Tampere public transport website.

By train

The journey takes about 1.5 hours and is 150km.

The distance from Tampere to Jyväskylä is around 150km and takes about 2 hours. Some of the car rentals are open only prior to reservation, so make sure to check the opening times and other information on the car rental companies’ websites.
